Volunteer Services: Aloha in Motion

Volunteers continue to be one of the most powerful forces in recovery.

Volunteers continue to be one of the most powerful forces in recovery.

In 2025:

We also launched a centralized volunteer request portal, allowing DCMs to request recovery-related volunteer support directly on behalf of their clients—bridging need with action more efficiently than ever.

A significant milestone this year was the buildout of the Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) Volunteer Village at the former Sacred Hearts School site. This thoughtfully designed space now includes:

MDS has invested over $250,000 to establish a fully operational volunteer facility to support long-term rebuilding efforts on Maui. This included shipping vehicles to the island, purchasing tools locally, and transforming former classrooms into welcoming volunteer bunkhouses—creating a sustainable base for ongoing recovery work.

We are also deeply grateful to Cajudoy Construction, which donated significant labor and materials to support the Volunteer Village and has played a critical role in coordinating rebuild efforts alongside volunteer teams.

Together, these investments represent more than infrastructure—they reflect a shared commitment to Maui’s recovery and to the belief that rebuilding happens best when community comes together.

We extend heartfelt mahalo to our faith-based and national partners who lead with compassion and commitment:
Mennonite Disaster Service, Presbyterian Disaster Services, Lahaina United Methodist Church, Pukalani Nazarene Church, Poʻokela Church, American Baptist Home Mission Societies, Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, and OU Relief Missions.

As one partner so beautifully said:
“Volunteers are love in motion.”
