In 2025, Disaster Case Management (DCM) remained the backbone of recovery for hundreds of Maui families.
DCMs submitted nearly 500 Maui Stabilization Grant applications, advocating for individualized recovery plans tailored to each Survivor’s unique situation. Through this program, up to $25,000 per household could be requested to address unmet needs such as rent, mortgage and HOA fees, utilities, medical expenses, insurance, and car-related costs.
To date, approximately 50% of these applications have been processed, resulting in over $3 million in direct payments supporting families across Maui. We are deeply grateful to the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation and Maui Economic Opportunity for trusting the DCMs and partnering with us on this critical recovery effort.
Importantly, Hoʻōla LTRG is one of only three agencies statewide selected to receive Disaster Case Management Program (DCMP) case transfers as the State-funded program closes at the end of January 2026. This transition reflects months of complex coordination, system alignment, and trust-building—and represents a significant milestone in ensuring continuity of care for Survivors who are still on their recovery journey.
It restored dignity. It reduced fear. It gave families room to breathe.
“A recovery plan is not just paperwork,” shared one of our Disaster Case Managers.
“It’s built on listening—truly listening—to a Survivor’s story, their fears, and their goals. Every plan is different because every family’s recovery is different. When clients feel heard, they begin to believe again.”
One Survivor, a single father of two, shared how the grant changed his family’s trajectory:
“I had to delay retirement just to qualify for rebuild loans. I was paying rent, a mortgage, and all the other costs of life. This grant gave us four months of breathing room. For the first time since the fire, I could focus on rebuilding instead of just surviving. It was a blessing.”
Across Maui, Survivors are slowly—but meaningfully—moving from waiting to real progress.
